Erik S asked:

My wife and I would like to replace the glass in our coffee and end tables with something other than glass. I thought this might be something that other people have done in the past but I cannot find any info on the net. I thought of using 20″ X 20″ porcelain tile but it may be too heavy and Lowes does not have a wet saw big enough to cut it (you would think they would but they don’t - at least at my local Lowes). I’m looking for something light but sturdy. Other suggestions have been fiberboard covered with some sort of leather cover. I’d really appreciate some info if anyone has done this or has good ideas. Thanks!

get a nice piece of hardwood cut to size. stain it and then seal with polyuerethane…

The fiberboard covered with leather would be nice.

You don’t say what color your table is, but you could use melamine (I think I spelled that correctly), if white.

Also take fiberboard and buy little tiles, (there are some gorgeous little glass tiles) or even 3×3 ceramics.

Also, you could use river rock that might look nice.

I think you project totally depends on your family, some of the items wouldn’t be as durable for little truck drivers…
